[Gpdd] Question about behavior of Piggies and Cats...

I loved reading about the Maine Coon cat who hangs out and talks to the piggies. I had a dear, friendly cat named Alex who passed away a few months ago. He was a very big guy who liked making friends with other cats, dogs -- and my guinea pigs. He didn't talk much ever, but when my guinea pigs got floor time in the kitchen he LOVED to join them. He never tried to hurt them, and they never showed any signs of fear of him -- they would go right up and sniff him. I always watched, of course, because when they annoyed him too much he could swat back (in play, never in anger), and I was worried he could hurt them by accident simply due to his size. But it was wonderful to watch them together and I am sorry I never got a picture. Back when Babu Franklin was an only pig and lonely before I got Nani Alice to keep him company, there was a special bond between Babu and Alex -- they would actually play together, with Babu on the floor on one side of a partly-opened door and Alex on the other side -- Babu sticking his nose underneath or through the hinge on one side, and Alex passing his paw under the door. Babu was incredibly drawn to Alex -- he loved to be near him -- he was much more afraid of me than of Alex! It is so sweet when animals of different species that you'd think would "normally" not get along display affection for one another.

I remember someone writing on this list quite a while ago about having a dog who was protective of her piggy.

Any other good stories of cross-species friendships out there?
