Dear Glynis

Have you tried a diuretic? This clears fluid from the lungs. Vedra from
Cambridge Cavy Trust says to use the following for respiratory problems in
guinea pigs. She says (I copied this from one of her newsletters):

'CCT standard treatment at the dose level described below has for many years
been a life line. a 'one-off' injection of 0.2ml 'dimazon' (frusemide)
followed by a 1ml triple drug injection consisiting of 0.4ml Batyril, 0.3ml
Bisolovon and 0.3ml Dexadressen. For the remaining 7 to 10 day treatment he
is unlikely to require any further frusemide. Second and third day treatment
should continued at the same does rate of the triple drug combination, after
which Dexadressen can usually be reduced to either 0.2ml or 0.1ml dependent
on the patients response. In addition to this treatment Vick vapour rub
should be smeared across the nostrils 3 to 4 times per day.'

I would imagine you would need to go to the vets for this treatment. To
call Vedra her number is 07721 026 401 not sure what code you would have to
add for calling from Oz to here. It might cost a few dollars, but the
expert advice she will give you would be well worth it.

Carole
