Yes, guinea pigs can be visually impaired. They can be blind and get around so well with other piggies that you do not even know they are blind. They can, also, get cataracts. Abby's are prone to cataracts. 
I have had a couple of Abbys that have gotten cataracts in later years. They still get around well and there is nothing you can do for them. They adapt very well.
