It sounds like Billy is ready to be with his friends over the Rainbow
Bridge. The one thing that I have always used with my aging male cavies
to try to determine if they are still interested in staying on earth is
to put an old female in with the male who seems to have lost his will to
eat. If he chirps up and takes interest in the female it is a sure sign
that he is not ready to walk across the bridge. I then Keep the female
in a pen next to male if he is not neutered so that they can socialize.
I also allow them supervised play time together. I had a 6 year old
lemon agouti who would not even lift his head to eat. I put him in a a
very large pen with 10 girls and the next day he was running around like
a young stud. He actually lived with those 10 girls for another year
until he finally passed away. He was not neutered and he did not sire
any young during that time. I guess I just got lucky with him but I
would not recommend that other people should allow a non-neutered male
to live with 10 females of various ages. He had sired pups when he was a
youngster. And even Peter Gurney has been caught off guard by putting
together old males and females and being surprised that they were able
to breed. But he did bond with an old female who died exactly 30 days
after he died. She had no illnesses. I think she died of a "broken
heart" because they were always together even though he could of chosen
to be with any of the other females.
Regarding Metatone there are several British stores that ship it to the
USA. Here is a link for one of the stores. But just do a Google Search
and you will find other stores and various prices. I buy British
products for my cavies and my British husband. I never have to pay duty
on the packages.
