Sorry I missed the original post with the Piggy who had a seizure. My Herbie had seizures for 2 years - and I spent a ton of money taking him to the Exotic Vets. They insisted on skin scrapings, black lights, and he had more Ivermectin than a cow!

After each seizure he needed to have a piece of fruit with Karo Syrup to raise his blood sugar, and sadly they became more an more frequent, and more violent.

I was finally lucky enough to be able to get him an appointment with Dr Kathy Quesenberry who is the head of Exotics at the Animal Medical Center in NYC. She is also the top teaching vet for Exotics in the USA.

What I learned was - yes they were mite related seizures, even though no test showed mites. He also ended up with a huge hematoma from an Ivermectin shot from one of his vets.

She prescribed LymDyps, one a week for a month. You just sponge it on their coat. He was put on 4 doses of liqued Ivermectin - I believe every 30 days. She also gave him a liqued Benedryl to stop his itching. Many vets will not suggest LymDyp because of the awful smell - but it is a miracle drug for pigs.

She had me use nothing but plain white paper towels in his cage for a few weeks, and use Clorox versus Vinegar to clean it.

It was amazing - within 2 weeks the seizures stopped totally.

If anyone has a pig with seizures, please, please - have your vet contact Dr Q for doses and help. Sadly Herbie died at 3 years old because of all of the damage the seizures did to his system.

  Hope this helps
