Like everyone else in the gpdd community, we have been following the
progress of Cocoa with baited breath, remembering him and you in our prayers and
hoping against hope that he could be made well again. I think, sadly, that most
of us have been there, done that and know just how deeply you have suffered as
you helped your beloved boy in his fight for life. These little guys are so
fragile, so susceptible to problems, and once they become unable to eat
normally, for whatever reason, they really do seem to go downhill rapidly. Our
Red Dandy was syringe fed for over a month, and it was agonising to watch his
weight just drop away in spite of all our, and indeed his, valiant efforts. In
our case, we eventually took him to Penny's rodentologists, in another
country from where we live, in the hope that they could save him, but in fact he
still went to The Bridge, in spite of their excellent care. As people often say
on here, sometimes it is just their time to go. We are positive Cocoa knew
how very dearly he was loved, and appreciated your final most difficult act of
love as you launched him on his final journey to that wonderful meadow
beside the Rainbow Bridge.

Words are never adequate, we know, but we wanted nevertheless to add our own
humble expression of comfort to the waves that have already been flowing
your way. As you say, it is best to focus on the image of Cocoa now free from
suffering, popcorning around that lush green meadow and munching on the
millions of wild rockmelons that are sure to grow there.
