Oh, well done Jan for emailing that shelter.
With a bit of thought a wire bottomed cage can make an excellent piggy home. It just needs a thick wad of newspaper on the base to protect those little feet.
Years ago, someone gave me a large and roomy poultry crate to house piggies on my table when I did the RSPCA Pet days. With several layers of newspaper on the bottom it has been a sturdy Piggyfriend home ever since.
Someone dumped a large chinchilla cage at my local amenity tip recently. Laid on its side and with a bit of work with wirecutters to remove what it now the top, it makes a spacious home for Frodo and Shadow. Again, layers of newspapers protect the boys' feet from the wire base.
I am, of course, very gratetful to my army of newspaper savers.
Penny.
