Gwen,
My little Luke went through ivermectin treatments.  He looked really  bad off 
after the second treatment---scratching, biting, bleeding,  scabbing.  But 
don't get discouraged--you really need to administer that  third shot.  He made 
a very quick turnaround after that.  
 
I found that putting warm oatmeal bath compresses on his back seemed to  
soothe him greatly so you may consider giving that a try.
