[Gpdd] [HEALTH] V-shaped bald patch

I remember my lop-eared rabbit developing exactly the same V shaped
baldness around her shoulders/back. Several rabbit-savvy people (on the
Internet, of course!) suggested to me that this was a classic sign of a
parasitical infestation, though I cannot for the life of me remember
whether it was mites or lice. The V is caused by the limit of reach of
the animal's claws when it is scratching itself. In Bisou's case, the
solution was to use "Spot-On" on the back of her neck, but I don't think
this can be used with guinea pigs (I stand to be corrected)? I think you
would need to treat with Ivermectin; the rodentologists from Cavies
Castle gave me enough of this to treat all my piggies regularly, just 2
drops at a time by mouth. But I have no idea of the strength of the
solution used, so you would have to ask your vet's advice. There is also
VetSect shampoo, but I don't know whether you can get this in mainland
Europe - I bring mine over from the UK! I think you are going to adopt
these two boys - take it from someone who has been slave to 22 piggies at
one time - there is really very little difference between 3 and 5,
particularly if the new boys share just one cage ...!! Good luck Debbie
(slave to 10 Dolly Mixtures)

"We patronize them for their incompleteness,
for their tragic fate of having taken a form so far below ourselves.
And therein we err, and greatly err.
For the animal shall not be measured by man.
In a world older and more complete than ours
they move finished and complete, gifted
with extensions of the senses we have lost or never attained,
living by voices we shall never hear.
They are not brethren, they are not underlings;
they are other nations, caught with ourselves
in the net of life and time, fellow prisoners
of the splendour and travail of the earth".
