Dave,
We were so sorry to hear about snuggles. Please DO NOT blame yourself for this; it sounds as if the vet's office fed him too soon after the anesthesia. They do need to eat and drink fairly quickly after surgery, but *absolutely not* until after they are able to be up and moving around without grogginess. It's even possible that they didn't swab his mouth out thoroughly enough before/during the surgery and he may have aspirated something then.
