Penny and the Piggyfriends We were so sorry to read of dear old SCAMP
Sam's recent departure for the Rainbow Bridge, and apologise for not
having expressed our condolences earlier, but we have had problems
accessing the Internet for a while, and are struggling to catch up with
our backlog of emails. We think you should always post about all your
departures, even though, with having such a large herd, they are bound to
be more frequent than you would like - indeed, almost more than in
bearable, although we admire your courage in continuing to take on new
recruits into the herd, knowing they will one day break your hearts.
Don't worry about upsetting other members of the gpdd - we are all of
like mind here, we know each and every pig is important in his or her own
way, and each one deserves an obituary or tribute to mark the occasion of
his or her passing. None more than dear old Sam, who as a rescued SCAMP
was a particularly admirable tribute to the love and care bestowed on him
by his devoted slave, Penny. We recognise the type, not getting on with
other pigs, as we have had several males here like that ourselvs,
although like Sam, they have always enjoyed the company of others so long
as there has been a barrier preventing invasion of territory. We are glad
Sam was able to slip away quietly and peacefully in his own time and
place, although we know that, no matter how gentle and expected the
departure, it still hurts like hell to find oneself suddenly without a
much treasured member of the family. We know that you know how very
sincerely we share your sense of loss and understand your sadness, and
although these thoughts are reaching you very belatedly, you will have
known how this departure would have touched us, and that we would be
wishing you well at such a sad time. Sam is now popcorning through that
sunshine and dandelion filled meadow at The Rainbow Bridge, no longer old
and tired but back to his old energetic self. And yes, let's hope that
there, as he is reunited with old friends, he is able to accept and enjoy
their presence more than he was able to in this world. Love and hugs from

"We patronize them for their incompleteness,
for their tragic fate of having taken a form so far below ourselves.
And therein we err, and greatly err.
For the animal shall not be measured by man.
In a world older and more complete than ours
they move finished and complete, gifted
with extensions of the senses we have lost or never attained,
living by voices we shall never hear.
They are not brethren, they are not underlings;
they are other nations, caught with ourselves
in the net of life and time, fellow prisoners
of the splendour and travail of the earth".
