Hello to all Cavies and Slaves,

As Vedra Stanley-Spatcher of the CCT and Bar and in her book Diagnostic 
Guide to Guinea Pig Problems states..the best pain medication for cavies 
is Rimadyl also known as carprofen. Cavies tolerate this NSAID very well 
and can be on it for years. Starting does is Orally 10 mg q12h.
Depending on the problem you can administer this dose for up to 5 days 
or longer then change to orally 5 mg q12h for weeks if needed. Then the 
dose can be reduced to orally 5 mg q24h indefinitely. I have had cavies 
with arthritis that lived pain free under this treatment protocol for 3 
years and died of old age at 8 to 9 years old.
