My vet for many years prior to my current Rodentologists told me that he 
obtained blood samples from piggies by overclipping a toenail. Far less 
painful to the piggy than sticking in a needle. Piggies have very thick 
skins as we know.

A toe soon heals up as any of us who have either clipped too eagerly or been 
dealing with a wriggly piggy can testify.
