Oh Ellen , I'm so very sorry. Sounds like you had really fine vets and under 
the circumstances I agree it was the kindest thing to do. Whee all have 
organs, why cant they just work like they are supposed to, after all!  I'm 
glad his suffering is over, and again you saw the signs that he was starting 
to shut down, He was a very lucky piggy to have you for a slave .OH! how I 
wish it ever got easier!  Why doesn't it ever!  I will light a candle for 
your little darling Rufie and say a little prayer to guide his spirit. I am 
quite sure he sent the dog to comfort you.  I am so very sorry
