[Gpdd] Health: Quarantene, Skinny Pig Needs

Thanks everyone who shared their opinion on quarantine lengths. If I do adopt the little guy I do intend to carry quarantine for 4 weeks. I knew 2 weeks was a bare minimum in my opinion and usually in practice with other animals used more 3-4 weeks and since the majority suggest 4 weeks then 4 weeks it shall be.

The only downside is that my living arrangement is a one room apartment; I guess I should’ve properly called it a studio because there is no delineation between rooms. My bedroom, living room, kitchen, entry hall, grand ball room
;), etc are all connected in one (tiny) room. I will do my best to keep them on separate corners of the room and instead follow procedures of never handling the newbie before Izzy and of course stringent washing, clothes changing between the two so no carryover between the potential newbie and Izzy.

Now my second question which was brought up by Penny. What type of health issues is specific just to skinny pigs?

I’ve never owned one before but reading up on them I’ve come across naturally logical things such as susceptibility to sunburn, more temperamental to cold, more likely to cut themselves scratching since they do not have protective fur, more likely to have ingrown eyelashes, higher food intake to maintain body temperature
Also some places report they were at one time more weaker immunologically but apparently selective breeding has improved that. SO now I ask owners of skinny pigs, What do you have to add to my list of special considerations for a skinny pig compared to the furred ones? Anything you’ve learned and wished you’d known beforehand I am all ears to your suggestions..

Oh yes and finally, seeing as I cannot have each pig in their own closed room, is there an airborn pathological nastie that I should be worried about that would be transmitted solely via air? Or as long as I am scrupulous about physical transmission (either active pig-on-pig or passive through hitchhiking on my hands or sleeves)should I not worry overly much about something I cannot control?

For the more pig versus disease oriented I went to visit and handle the little dude yesterday. He is located at a Petsmart in their adoption center and from a local small animal rescue and was absolutely adorable
in that really ugly skinny pig way  Apparently skinny pig is an acquired taste according to people who saw him
Anyways the little guy was terribly jumpy in the store and I am waiting hear back from the rescue because the store’s adoption file had very limited information on him. But man
he is just so goofy and cute lookin,
Thanks again,
~Evin
