Reply to Jean,
My guinea pig Gordon occasionally gets a Cheerio when I am having some.  I hold one out to him, and he takes it, and thinks it to be a special treat.  We don't do this often, and he only gets about 3 little "O's", at most.  Whatever fruit I am having with the Cheerios, Gordon also get some of that, too.  We have never had any problems with this, and he loves the crunchiness.
