[Gpdd] [HEALTH] Spooky and diarrhoea

I'm glad Spooky is doing better!

I just want to throw this out there:

What I've come to understand from exotic vets over the years is that
diarrhea in GPs is quite different from the situation in humans. In humans,
we are trying to stop the gut from moving. In guinea pigs, stopping the gut
from moving is exactly what we don't want, so isn't administering a human
anti-diarrhea medicine not what we would want to do? They are herbivores
with a gut kind of like a cow or sheep -- so isn't intestinal stasis
actually dangerous? I'm just curious, because I was surprised to see that in
the letters from Ann Evans referencing the CCT and from warmbreath.

I know that serious diarrhea needs to be treated by a vet -- it can kill
within 24 hours. If taking away all veggies doesn't turn around the
situation within a few hours, you have a problem that could be caused by
bacteria, fungus and be big time enteritis. And, probiotics are a great
idea; I'm surprised that being with another GP hasn't IMPROVED Spooky's
intestinal health, since they cross contaminate each other with "good"
bacteria. Hopefully it was just a simple transient illness and he's on the
mend.

Anyway, just wanted to find out more about GP intestinal ailments.

Thanks

Victoria
