Vince We're not sure how many piggies you have lost, but it must have
been a horrible experience for you, and indeed for them. We don't know
what country you live in, but is there not a way you could get your
former roomate prosecuted for deliberate cruelty to animals? Adult
piggies can actually survive in freezing temperatures if they have enough
hay - the Dolly Mixtures were rescued from outdoor hutches in minus 10
temperatures, and I know of slaves who keep their masters outdoors all
year round, including when there is frost or snow - not that the Dolly
Mixtures have ever been allowed to be cold since they were rescued.
Theirs are the only two rooms heated 24/7 in our house! But the cats
..... . Our cats are used to the piggies and would not harm them (they
sleep in their hutches/cages with them sometimes) but we have seen what
they can do to wild rats and mice outside. On 6th May 2003 we lost 5
precious Dolly Mixtures to maurauding dogs in our garden, and it broke
our hearts. We will never forget the terrible scene. Please accept our
most sincere condolences at this very difficult time. We're not sure
whether Hershey is a survivor of your tragedy, or whether you have
acquired a new piggie to comfort you in your loss. We had three survivors
of our massacre, but did acquire five more the day after it happened,
although we were never able to forgive the new ones for not being the
ones we had lost. Anyway, be comforted by the thought that your lost
piggies are now free from cold, fear or pain at The Rainbow Bridge, and
probably excitedly joining in the preparations for the celebration of
Peter Gurney's birthday tomorrow. Everyone here in the gpdd community
will be shocked to have read your story, and sending warm thoughts and
prayers your way. Debbie and the 8 Dolly Mixtures

"We patronize them for their incompleteness,
for their tragic fate of having taken a form so far below ourselves.
And therein we err, and greatly err.
For the animal shall not be measured by man.
In a world older and more complete than ours
they move finished and complete, gifted
with extensions of the senses we have lost or never attained,
living by voices we shall never hear.
They are not brethren, they are not underlings;
they are other nations, caught with ourselves
in the net of life and time, fellow prisoners
of the splendour and travail of the earth".
