Jean and Andy,

I am so glad that Biff is feeling better.

I hesitate to recommend drugs when the names and the dosages can be so different between our countries but I always use Children's Ibuprofen Liquid for my piggies. In England this is known as Nurofen but it seems to be the same and very safe for piggies. For me the dose is 0.4ml twice daily but the strength may not be the same as yours.

Typing personally, I can vouch for the fact that antibiotics can start to work very quickly. I have, in the past, suffered with bronchitis and after just one dose of erythromycin, I have begun to breathe more easily. I make sure to finish the course.

I agree with Sandy about the little ears. It is much easier to clean out ears during a shampoo, when the wax softens. Clean out very carefully with a cotton bud and use a fresh one for each ear. I have always been nervous of poking in ears as they are so delicate but it needs to be done, especially on piggies that are prone to a wax build up. My Rodentologist uses a little device that looks like a narrow bent hairpin in a plastic handle to great effect. She is braver than I when it comes to ears.

You can also soften the wax using a little warmed olive oil.

Keeping up the regular Ivermectin regime keeps the ear mites at bay.

I am eternally grateful to have my wonderful Rodentologists and before them a great vet, who all deserve hugs and I am glad that you have Ann's help even if your vet is not of the highest calibre. The trouble with vets is that they are often necessary to acquire the drugs and then you can ignore their advice.

Love and hugs to Biff and all the Misfits.

Penny and the Piggyfriends.
