Hello Hanna and Fatima,
If Fatima has had that lump since Spring and it has caused her no problem, I
would leave well alone. Your vet is right. Surgery is so risky for piggies
at any age and I would not want to put a 6 year old through a procedure that
may be unnecessary.
I have had several piggies who developed lumps and bumps in old age and were
none the worse for them. My Roscoe has a lipoma ( a fatty lump ). He has had
this for years and it does not bother him. It could well be that Fatima's
lump is one of these. Lumps like this can be moved around a little under the
skin and are not attached to anything.
If you really want to know what it is, could your vet perform a conscious
Xray? You would not want Fatima to be anaesthetised. Our vet puts sandbags
either side of the piggy to keep him/her still.
Hugs for Fatima,
Penny and the Piggyfriends.
