Rufie went to the vet last wheek.  His suture sight from the sebaceous cyst removal is fully healed.  Vet weighed him, he weighed 2.7 lbs.  {Back in July, he weighed 3.0 lbs.}

I got some Critical Care just in case. the vet asked a bunch of things. One was what kind of guinea pig food was I giving him. Well, i had changed it a little bit. She said to go back to what he had before, which was the Kaytee Timothy Complete. She said the other piggies may be fine with the mix I have been using, but not him.

They will call me in a few wheeeks to see how it goes.

The vet did also say that his weight now is a good weight for him. Just to keep it up.

So, Rufie is eating the Kaytee Timothy Complete with the Kaytee plain Guinea Pig food. He is also eatin his hay, and starting to eat more like he did before. He was quite a big guinea pig when I got him 3 years ago, when he was about 6 mos. He has just been one hefty gp!

He loves his tomatoes, Romaine lettuce, cucumbers. Watermelon is cheap these days and I usually give them the rind with just a little of the pink part. all washed of course.

I have to say, when I had my Li'l Guy, I could not imagine him gone. Same with Rufie, I just want to enjoy him as it unfolds.

The weird thing about all this is he lost weight after surgery. Oh, and yes he had a fecal parasite test which was negative.

Interesting to note that guineas share a common gene with humans and some of the primates. So~~I always thought they are very much like humans in many ways, strange as it may sound...which makes me think, then, do not some people also lose weight after surgery?

I see how Rufie is, all energetic now, loves to escape from my arms when i am holding him and run about the room and visit all his piggy friends from the outside, who are all in their own 'bedrooms' (i.e.~~cages)...goes hiding under the two twin beds...visits with Darla the one-ear-up/one-ear-down rabbit, and really, just scoots around so much more quickly now I really think heis enjoying his new, lighter self. He used to do this before but just not so fast on his feet! And he knows his cage and when I say, "Rufie, go back in Rufies' cage" he climbs back in usually when he is ready, and when I keep saying it...I have to think he is healthy and in his JOY. And he came here to enjoy life!
