Hi Joanie I just found something really interesting and urgent from looking
up good drugs
and bad drugs specific to piggies for Hershey after I got that great article
from Penny
about e.c.
On http://www.guinealynx.info/, I looked at flagyl and followed a link to
http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&C=31&A=532&S=0
and it gives the side effect symptoms for Flagyl (which has been the wrong
drug all along) and guess what, allot of Hershey's symptoms are exactly the
same as side effects of flagyl. Maybe she's getting too much or she is
sensitive to it.
If I remember right she didn't get these symptoms till she was on the
flagyl, if I
have the time line correct, be sure the vet looks up the proper gp dose,
not the one
for rabbits.
I think you should read the links above, actually I beg you to, and compare
the proper
dose of flagyl to the dosage your vet prescribed for her. It would be very
ironic if he
troubles are due to the flagyl, but I dont know her dosage, so once again
print out the
info and discuss it with the vet. Again the article from Penney is
excellent but many
places in it are specific to bunnies only, I know its confusing, but this
side effect info
could save her life. I dont agree with e.c article where the breeder says
she leaves her
buns on it all the time, several weeks does it, again though, I'm talking
about Panacur
or the Oxibendazole as the correct anti parasitic drug so there's 2 issues
1. if she has e.c. she's on the wrong drug now
2. the wrong drug may be causing her symptoms, but its not a given unless
you and the vet discover the dose of flagyl is way too large
3. So, this info may muddy whether she has e.c or not, so still I recommend
taking her off
flagyl and putting her on the proper e.c. protocol meaning a proper
antiparasitic, plus Baytril
and Metacam and the other supportive therapies. If she has e.c. and she
isn't treated properly,
survival would be very rare indeed E.C. goes into remission on its own very
rarely.
Best regards Sandy
