--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Don't panic Ric! There are definitely no bugs that are necessary for a
piggy's survival.

Mange mites burrow under the skin, where they cause intense pain and I
wonder if your vet actually found lice and their eggs in the coats.

There is some info on mites and how to treat them on GL
http://www.guinealynx.info/mites.html Follow the links on the left for info
on fur mites and lice.

Ivermectin doses need to be repeated as the first dose will kill the mites
but not the eggs. A second dose 10-14 days after the first will destroy the
next generation and sometimes a third dose is required after another couple
of weeks.

If the bugs turn out to be lice, these can removed with a suitable shampoo.
Unfortunately the one that I use for all kinds of parasites is not for sale
overseas ( I'm in England ) but Ann posted just the other day about products
available in the US, where I guess that you live.
