Dear Ellen
You sound very tired and worn down. I wonder if the recent distress of
losing Rufie is still very much at the fore-front of your mind, too, and
that all those visits to the same vets are stirring up a lot of sad emotions
right now. The heatwave you have there won't be helping much, either.
Continual trips to the vets when our pets are ill is very distressing and I
recall it only too well. Vedra's is an hours drive from me, and I was
forever scrounging lifts from friends to get there (I don't drive). The
journey was far too long and I hated the worry of having an ill pet with me
and getting them to her and then having an hours journey ahead of me to get
back home again, and then when I'd got home, feeling tired and ready for
bed, I cound't do that as there was more syringe feeding to do and also
getting up in the night to care for them. I felt like I was forever on
emergency call and was shattered all the time.
Give yourself a good 24 hours to think this through. Ask yourself which vet
you regard as being best -- even if the receptionists are crap. If you feel
the best vet it is the vet you've had all the calls from, then still use
them, as the outcome that you are searching for is the one where you get the
best vet for your guinea pigs and rabbit. If they (the receptionists) are
funny with you when you call again to arrange a newappointment, ignore the
remarks, act as though nothing has happened, and just book the appointment.
If they make further remarks, just ignore them all, and say you'll see them
later. If you don't give them anything they can respond to, your call to
them will be short, and there's less stress in it that way for you and no
mileage in it for them.
The best for your piggies and rabbit is what's important here, so go to the
vet that can give you that. I'm sorry if the receptionists are crap (I have
the same problem with the receptionists at my vets), but just don't rise to
the bait. Then it's an easier life for you. My cat (who is sitting on my lap
as I write this) has just meowed in agreement.
Take it easy on yourself, Ellen, and the best of luck at the vets.
