Hello Erin and welcome to the GPDD. Welcome to May and Pineapple too.
Poor little Dora. I am in England and I do not know where you would stand
legally regarding rescuing Dora but I am sure that one of our US members
will have some advice.
Here I could report the centre to the RSPCA, who would check up on Dora's
welfare and make sure that her needs are met or have her signed over to them
asap.
As a piggy rescuer myself I would insist that I took her home with me so
that she could be fed properly and kept in a clean cage. Keeping her in such
a small cage is beneath contempt in itself, let alone the state of the cage
or the lack of provision of proper food.
Can you speak to the person in charge and explain that Dora is in dire need
of proper care and attention? I appreciate how hard it can be to do this
without ranting and have had to steel myself many times, trying very hard
to be calm about the disgusting conditions in which I have found piggies
whilst convincing their owners that the piggies would be better off with me.
I leave the tears until the piggy is safely in my car and on the way home to
Piggyfriends ( my little rescue ).
In the meantime can you take some veggies and clean hay in for Dora and
perhaps fill her pellet bowl? It is possible that the owners are ignorant of
the fact that Vitamin C is vital for a piggy but it seems to me that this is
just a case of pure neglect. Could you offer to take over her care whilst
she is in the centre? Could you spare the time to clean out her cage? They
might be glad of your help and might even realise how cruel they are being.
I am fuming whilst typing this and know how you must be feeling. I would
think that a centre that is affiliated to a church would have some
compassion for one of God's little creatures.
Do let us all know what I hope will be a happy outcome for little Dora.
Paws crossed for Dora and thank you for caring.
Regards from Penny and the Piggyfriends.
