I'm sorry Checkers chose to cross the Bridge. I can't help but wonder many times when they reject food and drink, if they're actually seeing their new home and anxious to be there. Animals' hearts and souls are so very pure, death doesn't frighten them the same way it does us, especially if they're well acquainted with love and can recognize it there. 
 
I'm really sorry you lost such a precious little friend and master.
