I agree that in general it is a great risk to spay a sow, however;  if you 
find a specialist who has done many many on Piggies, not just buns, and the 
subject is young enough then go ahead,  IF you can devote at least 6 wheeks 
to intensive after care to assure she is constantly clean ad her 
surroundings are clean, she is weighed every day, her diet is high quality, 
etc. My mistake was with the subject, she herself was a gassy pig, so much 
it was a characteristic, and when she came off Reglan 10 days later, her 
stitches started itching from the gas and she chewed through them and her 
own bowel, and so she died.   So it's very tricky to spay but if I had a 
great surgeon would spay all the sows that are young and healthy. Why, 
because this reproductive organ changes they go through are so common and so 
serious I would be pre-emptive. But If all systems aren't perfect better to 
pass it up and treat other ways. Just my opinion, Sandy and Sammy
