High quality timothy pellet for guinea pigs is fortified with the long
lasting version of Vit C and so they are important. Clearly an all grass,
varied hays, greens and veggies, with a few bits of real fruit could be a
real diet but I prefer the hay and timmy pellet based diet with mixed and
varied additional greens , hi roughage low sugar veggies and fruits to be
the best for my piggies in my circumstances. Clearly a piggies can live in
the wild on natural grasses with other stuff as taught by its parents, but
we keep them indoors and have to choose.

If you need to, go ahead and pick out the colored bits and seed, but I
caution you if it's been open more than a month and doesn't say it has long
lasting C supplements, just toss it. I think a company that puts the seed
and bits into a pellet food is probably using a low quality pellet, but
that's just my opinion. Good luck. Sandy and Sammy
