Hi,

Back already.
I wanted to ask you all if you got any idea what was wrong(?) with woopy.
We picked her up on monday and she felt and even looked extremely bloated.
you could easily see one side just explicitly sticking out.
She did not like us to touch her there, but it was similar like any place on
her back, she's never liked us to touch her back ever.
When petting i try to stick to the nose and shoulders she likes that. And
her daddy does a real good chin rub!
She seemed just fine otherwise, was eating peeing and i also think she was
just pooping as normal.
She did not show any other signs of not feeling good, no listlessness, no
hair standing our, nothing.

I gave her cisapral which works to empty out gas and the bowels.
She was still fine later that day, and looks normal again.
I am not really sure if it was bloat, as my Lotje always looked miserable
when she had bloat.
Any thoughts are welcome?
Maybe i should also mention that she seemed to have had troubles around the
bladder area, this was (half) a year ago.
she's not screaming out in pain when i touch her there, like with her back,
she surely does not like us touching her back and the bladder area.
X rays and an ultrasound where made but nothing was seen on there.

Now concerning neutering. We have thought about wether or not to neuter
Chico after his friend Toby died.
I felt at first that i did not want the vet to cut in a healthy boar. But i
did feel he needed company and getting another boar was not really an
options,
as Erwin is allergic to piggies, which is okay with the 4, but more will
lead to trouble for erwin.
He got along extremely well with me girls at that time, Guiny, Dunya and
Woopy. Especially Dunya and him seemed lovers through the fence when the had
floortime in separate fenced spaces.
However Guiny used to be very dominant, so it did not seem a good idea to me
have Chico neutered while Guiny still lived (she was getting old).
But when guiny died my doubts about neutering or not came back...
I went to vet a good experienced vet. My own vet wouldn't do the surgery
with a gas narcosis, they use injectable narcosis,
which i feel is more risky... Some of our members should be able to explain
that.
I really wanted a gas narcosis if possible. I knew the vet from the shelter
where i worked who neutered all the rabbits there,
and he also did this on many guinea pigs (not the ones in shelter though).
I called them and was glad to hear they would use the gas narcosis.
He got neutered at the start of this year, and was allowed to join the
girls: Woopy and Dunya at that time, on Valentine's day.
we waited about 6 weeks, just to be sure, plus valentine's day, the day i
officially adopted him and Toby a year before, seemed a good day for
introductions!
They got along perfectly right from the start, never had any real issues,
only some nipping, but never drawing blood.
I had expected come more trouble.
Chico's wound healed nicely, only thing that has changed since then is that
he seem less able to pass all his poos, a big clump of poop will gather down
there.
I clean him out (stinky) regularly, it does not seem to bother him.
My sister's boar Igor, and her sow at the time Suus had more trouble getting
used to each other.
her Jan the boar did develop an abcess some time after surgery, but that
cleared up with some good cleaning efforts of my sister.

Good luck with the visit and surgery!
Grtz,
Mieke and the Guinygirlz: Woopy, Lily and Daisy
and my valentine (i got to adopt him on valentines day as a valentine's gift
from erwin) Chico
