I had my first boar, Li'l Guy, neutered when he was approx. 3 and a half
years old. I had just gotten Gin Gin, and did not want her to get pignant
from him. Li'l Guy loved her and was so cute when I got her he would walk
over to her cage and lay under it (She was on a dresser).
Well, He was ok after that because the vet used ISOFLURANE (isuflorane? sp?)
gas which is best; and a skilled surgeon in small animals, but I do not
think I will do that again just because it is not necessary really. As long
as the boar stays away form the sow and does not impignant her, I mean,
sorry (LOL) impregnant, her.
Also with Li'l Guy he still had impactions and every day I would either let
him wander around on the floor, with Gin Gin, where he would eventually
expel the large lump of piggie poo, or I would assist him in pushing out the
impaction, as outlined in cavy spirit.

I have heard that neutering sometimes helps in alleviating impaction, but
not in this case. It was nice that I could have the two pigs together, yet
still I do not see neutering happening again with any of my piggies
