I don’t know what paw paw ointment is or why it would (or wouldn't) work.
Pure Shea butter may work or try just a vegetable oil? Also, wash first
with very mild soap, not detergent, with some Betadyne mixed in. Betadyne is
a disinfectant that works against fungal infections that are common.
Mimi, who we have reading about, is getting baths with a colloidal oatmeal
piggy shampoo which is very soothing, but adding Betadyne will help if it is
fungal, and it is a safe disinfectant sold over the counter. I have used it
for dozens of years to wash cuts and scrapes on me, my kids and piggies.
After the wash and rinse use the Shea butter or oil. Also keep in mind that
ears are very subject to ear mites, so make sure they are clear of mites, or
else get treatment for them first (standard anti mite protocol of
ivermectin), let me know if you need a copy.
My questions with the paw paw ointment is not only that I don’t know about
the efficacy of the paw paw itself, but what else is in it and is it really
safe. I avoid using petroleum jelly products incl. mineral oil, plus there
may be coloring, preservatives, fragrance, or other ingredients all of which
may be problematic. Please keep in mind that I am not a professional and
not a substitute for a trained piggy savvy, exotics, rodentologist type vet.
Let us know how it goes, Sandy and Sammy
