[Gpdd] CARE: Changing cages with very pregnant piggie

I have seen it recommended that a piggy mum to be should be kept in her
familiar environment until she has had her babes. Within a day or two they
will be running around their house and then would be a good time to make the
move to the new cage. You can have it all set up ready for the new family.
If you haven't seen newborn babes before, they are tiny and will stick close
to mum for a few hours before they start to explore.

Having said this, I rescued my Miss Piggy and her friend, Ashley, on the
same day that she gave birth. I only had a couple of hours notice about them
and I collected them from a filthy outdoor dog run. I had a spare pen for
Ashley and put Miss Piggy in a big box of hay with a pile of food under my
dining table whilst I constructed a new pen for her. Before I had finished
building, she had eaten all the food and then gave birth to three pups. I
left all four in the hay box until morning when I transferred the new family
to their more spacious accommodation. She obviously did not care about the
change of environment.

Others that have given birth here have been living in their pen for some
time and continued to do so with their babes. The group of three that I
mentioned the other day lived in that large pen with their daughters all
their lives.

If you do need to move Maggie, do it very carefully and support her well.

Good luck Maggie.
