I kept Hershey on fleece. Puff's too much of a shredder to leave unsupervised so I keep her on Carefresh except for the occasional excursion into her fleece-lined big girl cage.
As for the public laundromat, I'm sure hair will be an issue. I use a dampened rubber pet hair remover, available through Amazon, I believe. I hold the fleece against a large piece of coroplast (cardboard or backed artist's canvas will do) and literally sweep the hay and the hair and droppings into my garden. If odor's an issue, add some white vinegar to the wash. Hersh and I really appreciated the fleece. I layered several layers of newspaper, towels, and two layers of fleece, tucked in to discourage tunneling. Fleece is definitely worth a try! It's cozy and economical and gives good footing. You will need to find a good, unscented laundry detergent, though. I hope this works for you. It's easy once you have a system worked out.
