I had set up the cage before I met them and with those long coats, they nearly filled the space. When they had eaten all of the food, they retreated into the pigloo that I had provided. It was the largest one that I have and I was amazed that they fitted inside. When it was time for their beauty treatment, I lifted the pigloo and they were snuggled together in a Yin and Yang position. So sweet.

The Alpaca had been named Ginger. I think that I will change that as I once had a lovely girl called Ginger. Some of you may remember her daughters, Diamond, Peridot, Mayflower and Gingerbread. He sat beautifully on my lap as I started cutting off the worst of the mats. I filled a basket with trimmings and he looked half the size. I clipped his nails and got my husband to hold him whilst I carefully trimmed around his boar parts at the back. It was very matted there with the mats very close to his skin so I left the rest until shampoo time.

The silver Agouti is actually a Coronet as he has a little crest on the top of his head. He had been called Silkie. The lady was amazed when I told her that Shelties are called Silkies in other countries and that she had inadvertently got his breed almost right. Silkie does sound a little bit girly. That may be subject to change too. The naming of names is taken very seriously here at Piggyfriends and I will give this further thought. His hair was not so matted and he quickly resembled a tidy pig.

They both sat so nicely for their treatment and they seem like real cuddle pigs to me.

I thought that they had had enough work done on them for one day and left the shampooing until today. They are sitting in a box right now, wrapped in towels by the fire. They were so good in the bath, although they had never been shampooed before. Whilst his hair was wet, I managed to remove another pile of hair from the Alpaca and he looks much more pig sized now. I could do with the tiny hair clippers that my Rodentologist uses when preparing an area for treatment. Next time I visit, I will take my Alpaca with me and borrow them to trim his rear end more closely.

I am told that they are around six months old, possibly a bit older as the owner did not know their exact age when she bought them other than they were tiny.

I have taken some "before" pigtures but will wait until they are dried and brushed out before taking any more and then I will share them with you.

The lady that brought them is looking for a more suitable pet for her children now. She had the sense to realise that she could not cope with the piggies and found them a loving home. They were intrigued by my mice in their tank and my cockatiels. Perhaps I should have shown them all my GuPi mechanical guinea pig. She has promised to save me her newspapers for the Piggyfriends' pens and they will be very useful.

Please welcome the newest Piggyfriends. I hope that they will be as happy here as I am to have them.

Penny and the Piggyfriends.
