Dear Digest Friends,

I received this email from Lynn over night, it's very sad news........
I'll let you read,

Sending loves to everyone from us all,
Glynis, Velvet and Onyx xxxxx

Dear Glynis,
I am heartbroken and very sad to have to tell you that we had to help
Sammy to the bridge today. By the time we got her in to see the vet,
she was barely moving at all and could not lift her head up. This is
how bad she has gotten just since Saturday. I had both vets look at her
and we talked about many things. They both were of the opinion that it
was not any kind of parasite at all and they did do a thorough exam on
her ears and body.
They said her little belly was feeling totally empty so it is obvious
that she wasn't' eating. They both agreed that in all likelihood, it
was some sort of cancer. That only left the question of would it be
worth it to Sammy to put her through any more tests in the condition she
was in. We decided to let her go in peace and with gentle, loving hands
instead of having more needles and procedures done. So, after we all
talked it over until I couldn't cry any more, they brought an injection
of anesthetic in to give her. I held her as they gave it to her. Then,
they left us for about
5 minutes. They were supposed to come back and get her and give her the
second part, which was a gas. They do the anesthesia first so the
animal is not scared during the following procedures. As soon as they
gave it to her, she was so weak, she almost immediately went limp. She
just laid there, me loving and cuddling her and went into a very deep
sleep. As I rubbed her, a lot of her hair began falling out. I don't
know if that is normal as an animal passes, but she did. I held her
little face up to my ear and listened to her as her breaths became
shorter and farther apart. She was not struggling and seemed to be in
no pain at all. By the time the vet came back in the room, she was
pretty much gone. He took her out for about 1 minute then brought her
back, already laying in a nice little box and ready for us to take home.
He said that it took very little gas because she was really ready to go.
We brought her home and Earl is going to bury her in our back yard in a
special area where we have another beloved pet buried. I am going to
take Tabitha to the vet tomorrow to get her checked out to make sure she
has none of the symptoms of any kind of parasites or infections but so
far, Tabby is acting and looking perfectly healthy. I don't know how
she is going to react when she realizes Samantha is not coming back, but
I will be here for her whatever she needs. Please tell Sandy thank you
so much for her loving, helpful e-mail. I truly appreciate it and am
thankful for people like her. I will write again when I have had a few
days to absorb this loss and will still consider joining the list gain.
Thank you Glynis, for your love and concern and for being there to
support me during this very sad time. It has been rough and it isn't
over yet.

Please give my love to the folks on the list and tell them all thank you
for the prayers and their support. I will go for now. I want to be
with Earl while he buries Samantha. He is in tears as well. He's a
big, strong guy who would never want anyone to know he cried over a
guinea pig but these little guys really do take our hearts away, don't
they?

Hugs, love and whisker kisses,\
A very sad Lyn, little sister Tabitha and Samantha who is now at the
bridge with her grandpa
