I took Peony to see my Rodentologists yesterday as she had a sebaceous cyst
( now removed, healing up well and she has forgotten all about it ). I
always visit the patients and residents when I am there and take them a big
bag of freshly cut grass. I also took some plants for the little garden
that is being created there and swapped these for a bag of cooking apples
and a bundle of newspapers for the piggies' pens. A lot of bartering goes
on there. Not like visiting the vet at all. Just like going to a friend's
house.

In the hospital room was a piggy recuperating from having a benign tumour
removed from his little face. He was all stitched up and sitting beside his
friend and looked so sad. They had been brought there by a lady who runs a
small rescue. Not much of their story is known but they had been living in
a cardboard box at their previous ( for want of a better word ) home. My
Rodentologists were sad because, when the little boy has recovered and the
pair go back to the rescue, they will be living OUTSIDE until they are
adopted. With winter coming on. Eeeek! They may have only told me the story
because they knew that I would offer the pair a home but I have a feeling
that, if I had not, the next visitors with room to spare may well have
reserved them or else they would have become permanent residents as many
others have done before them. The thought of piggies living outside in our
dreadful climate is unbearable ( unless they have a luxury heated shed like
some piggies we know ). They have several clients like me who can always
take in an extra two or three.

The little patient is a very small Dalmatian and his friend is a choccy
Rex. The poorly one looks so much like my Opal from years ago and the Rex
is the image of my dear old Roscoe. They are, supposedly 3 1/2 to 4 years
old and need a warm and cosy place to spend the winter not stuck outside in
however well built the rescue hutch might be.They have got used to being in
the warm and dry at my Rodentologists' house. The card from the rescue said
that they are called George and Paul, though we do not know which is which.
I will change their names. They bring to mind the Beatles, whose music and
twee lyrics I always detested, although my husband was a fan.

For now, they are being kept at the Rodentologists' home in the lap of
luxury until the little Dalmatian is well enough to come home.

By then, my quarantine cage will be free as Rafferty will move into the pig
room with the rest of the herd. In the meantime, I can come up with names
that I like and I will announce when they are home and post pigtures.

I had thought of Rafferty as an early birthday present to myself and now
these two will be a late present. Lucky me.

Penny and the Piggyfriends.
