A little sow was brought into our local rescue a while ago because she had
been fighting with her companion. The staff teamed her up with a neutered
boar and they seemed to get along OK so they were rehomed together. Two
weeks later, she was brought back because she had attacked the boar. The
new owners had been sitting on a sofa with a pig each, when she lunged at
him and took a bite out of his bottom lip.

That put the rescue into a quandary because their policy is to only rehome
piggies in pairs or more unless they are going to be part of an existing
family group. So it seemed that she would live out her life at the rescue
unless they could find someone to take on a problem piggy.

Her pigture is on the rescue website here.........

Her name is Candy. She may be between 2 and 3 years old and has a slight
head tilt. The veterinary notes that came in with her stated that she had
either had a stroke or an ear infection, which was treated with antibiotics.

Whatever her condition, she is a friendly, chunky girl, who needed a home
and you won't be surprised to read that she is now in my quarantine cage.
She sits at the front ready to be petted and enjoyed a carrot and two
slices of cucumber on the 10 minute drive home plus some hay and a nibble
in the dry food bowl since being settled in.. She doesn't seem to like
parsley but may never have been offered it before. She is mostly white with
a large black patch on her left side. I'll take some pigtures soon to share
with you.

She may come to live with one of my groups at some time in the future but
if she wants to be a lone pig, that's no problem. There is plenty of room
here and she can see and talk to other piggies if she likes.

When I was in the cavy house at the rescue, I noticed two other piggies
with "home wanted" on the front of their run. The only other piggy in there
was being boarded for a staff member who is on holiday and was labelled
"not for rehoming" just to make sure. The other two have only recently come
in and are not yet on the website. A family breakup meant they they needed
a new home. They are an agouti boar called Quintin and his companion, a
huge Alpaca sow called Maisie. She is nearly twice his size and I assumed,
at first, that she was the boar of the pair. Of course, I had to go and
pick them up didn't I? But I knew, even before I reached out for them, that
the reserved sign would be going on their pen. You know how I love agoutis
and his friend looks just like my Fuzzypeg, except that she is
multicoloured. They are both very friendly and have obviously been loved.

I didn't have a carrier to bring them home today but my son, who works at
the rescue will be bringing them home tomorrow. They could have lent me a
carrier but this gives me time to set up another pen ready for them. I like
the name Quintin but Maisie will have to change. This was my mother's name
- we never did get on - so I might just call her May. I have a day to think
it over before I write out their cards.

So, please welcome Candy Piggyfriend today and I will tell you about the
other new ones soon. Pigtures anon.

Penny and the Piggyfriends.
