I like Penny's advice very much, perhaps further separation is wise, just
watch to see how he reacts emotionally. Penny thank you for the info that
Clor Palm is another name for Chloramphenicol. I was thinking as I read the
article my drug of first choice would be Chloramphenicol for a piggy as it
is very effective. Please note that it can be mixed with DMSO and applied
topically also to fight infection from the outside in as well as inside out.
I don’t know the proportions, but your vet probably does as that’s where I
got the treatment. My vet used it to treat an ear infection that had dripped
down into the chest area and settled into an abscess in the chest. When
using liquid or paste or gel Chloramphenicol the user should use gloves
because of this warning. It is used rarely in humans because of the
following warnings, and gloves are for when its mixed with DSMO because it
makes the drug much more absorbable. A small percent of of people are
sensitive to the warning below, I believe my vet says approx 1% but that’s
enough to be careful when handling it.

WARNING: Rarely, this medication has caused serious, sometimes fatal blood
disorders (e.g., aplastic anemia, hypoplastic anemia). Do not use
chloramphenicol if safer, effective medications can be used. Do not use this
medication to treat or prevent simple infections such as a cold or the flu.
Immediately notify your doctor if you have easy bruising or bleeding,
persistent sore throat or fever, or unusual fatigue.
USES: Chloramphenicol is an antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial
infections.
HOW TO USE: This medication is best taken on an empty stomach 1 hour before
or 2 hours after meals. It may be taken with food or milk if stomach upset
occurs. The liquid suspension form of this medicine must be shaken well
before using. Store in the refrigerator. Check the expiration date and
discard any unused portion after 14 days because the drug loses potency.
Antibiotics work best when the amount of medicine in your body is kept at a
constant level. Do this by taking the medication at evenly spaced intervals
throughout the day and night. Continue to take this medication until the
full prescribed amount is finished even if symptoms disappear after a few
days. Stopping the medication too early may allow bacteria to continue to
grow resulting in a relapse of the infection.

I am not a vet, vet tech, or trained piggy helper. Jut a piggy momma slave
with lots of piggies over many years. Any medical info I get should be
checked with a piggy vet.
Good Luck Sandy Sammy and AR at sea
