Poor Tedmund.

He could well have gas. In England I treat this with Infacol, a children's
gas med and sometimes add a Buscopan tablet, which helps with "cramps". I
crush one in a little water and syringe it in. Cindy's advice about massage
and a vibrating pad is excellent.

Teddy could have a UTI. The lifting and pushing is indicative of this. I
would treat him with Cymalon, a ladies' cystitis remedy but I know from Ann
of Piggyville that this is not available in the US. Have a look at her page
for info on UTIs.

After his wash, dry him carefully and apply a barrier cream such as
Vaseline around his hindquarters to prevent urine scald, which is very
painful.

It never hurts to give a painkiller. A pig is pain will never eat properly.
Children's liquid Ibuprofen at 0.4ml twice a day is great for piggies.

None of these remedies will cause any harm even if you do not have the
correct diagnosis and it may well be that you will need to find a good vet
asap as Teddy may need antibiotics for a UTI if the home remedies do not
cure it. We use paediatric Septrin here. 1ml. twice daily.

Nothing beats seeing a good vet or, better still, a Rodentologist and
without seeing Tedmund it is hard to give a correct diagnosis.

Keep us all posted. All the best to Teddy.

Penny and the Piggyfriends.

Disclaimer - I have no veterinary training just 40 years of piggy care and
have learned from the best - a great vet, the CCT, Peter and my wonderful
Rodentologists.
