I actually give a Brewer's Yeast with Garlic pill (plus an Omega 3 capsule) 
to each of my two small dogs (Yorkie and Westie) daily. Since I started 
this regimen, my Westie (who used to have terrible skin allergies, as is common 
for her breed) rarely scratches, and my 15-year old Yorkie is in tiptop 
shape for such a senior dog.

My Yorkie is just about the size of one of our larger guinea pigs!
