[Gpdd] [Rainbow Bridge] My Gordon is Gone

It is hard to write this.  I just buried my beloved Gordon.  My baby was doing poorly, and I know his time was near, but my heart is heavy and my house empty.  He had severe arthritis and I just tried to make life comfortable and happy for him, so that he knew how much he was loved.  He was about 8 1/2 years old, and except for the arthritis, he still ate well and loved being cuddled.

Gordon was the diligent Seretary of the Peter Gurney Memorial, a job that he loved and took very seriously.

He was a rescue from the Metropolitan Guinea Pig Rescue (MGPR), and was about 2 years old when I adopted him.  He had been through several adoption meets, but no one wanted him, so I knew that he was meant to be with me.  He was not a big piggie, but he was beautiful.  He was part agouti, and had the most beautiful coat of different patchworks of brown, with an all white backside.  I always told him how beautiful he was, and he just seemed to smile and be so proud of that.  He loved his human grandparents, who loved him and would sing his favorite song to him (Gershwin's Summertime), and he loved people.

When I first got him, he was skiddish and not very socialized, but after a few months, he became friendlier and happy.  I expect he had a rough start in life, as he was rescued from an animal shelter in Washington, DC by the MGPR before I adopted him.  They named him "Gordon", and when I got him he told me he liked that name, and just wanted a real home.  So he was my Gordon and I gave him the home that he wanted.

We had many great adventures, some of which were extremely funny.  As Gordon was such a quiet piggie (he "talked", but rarely wheeked), I was able to sneak him into all kinds of places in his canvas bag.  He got to go on many interesting vacations, and got to go to Ocean City, Maryland many times.  He was on the beach one time, in his own little cabana, and he was a big hit with people on the beach.  He hosted Algernon Rat, and showed him all of the famous sights in Washington, D.C.  He visited often with his gp friend "Pepito", although he preferred being with people.  I would even sneak him into restaurants, if it was too cold to leave him in the car. I took him into the one restaurant that had a salad bar, and would sneak pieces of spinach or other delicacies to him in his canvas bag.  He would sometimes start talking quietly, and I just hoped no one could hear him!

I buried him in my back yard, near my first GP Reese, and wrapped him up in his favorite blue blanket in a box.  I also planted a flowering plant on the grave of them both, and said my goodbye.  Reese had died several years ago, just 4 days before Gordon's passing.  I hope that Reese and Penny's Roscoe, who was Gordon's penpal, escorted him safely to the Bridge.  And I hope that Peter Gurney was at the Bridge to welcome him.

He was my baby always, and I will miss him.
Sorry this is so long - just needed to speak my heart.

Audrey
