Dear Dee and piggies,

Poor little June. Of the very many Piggyfriends through many years, only
two have needed treatment for stones and both of these, Mir from a few
years back and May, our recent arrival, came here with the stones. Being
sows, both of them had their stones eased out by our Rodentologists with no
need for an operation.

There are, reputedly, many reasons why stones develop but, luckily, I have
no experience of any of this. Our Rodentologists had a three month old
piggy, who developed a stone and, being a boar, he had to go the vets for
an op, which was successful and he has had no trouble since. This little
boy was born to a sow who was part of a huge rescue. All of the piggies
were inbred as the majority of them looked like my Peony and the rest like
my Petunia, who were both a part of the rescue. The ones with very bad skin
conditions came to be treated at our Rodentologists and either stayed with
them or were adopted by their clients. I suspect that genetics played a
part in that little boar having a stone but we do not know what kind of
food they had in the place from which they were rescued by the RSPCA.

I am so pleased that June is doing well and hope that she will be stone
free in the future.

Penny and the Piggyfriends.
