I forgot to tell you all about AR Algernon Rat. He is part of our family.
For those who don't know he is a small stuffed rat with a long history. One
day, the same day one of our own dearly beloved slave passed on across the
bridge in the great midsection of America, a white fancy rat was found in
suburban England. Our friend was called as Alge; short for Algernon, based
on the character in the book "Flowers for Algernon" as her adopted story of
her disability in reverse. The people who found the fancy rat were parents
of one of our members. The parents scooped him up took him home and he had a
fine life as a beloved fancy rat.

But the GPDD got hold of the story through the slaves we at once and
realized this rat was clearly the reincarnation of our Algernon so that
became his name. Whee all wanted to meet him so he went on a 2 or 3 year
journey via PigAir (air mail). He has his own blog that chronicles his
visits and adventures. In the end he came here to Salem Or. to live with
Sammy and I and he is an important member of our household, has a vote and
meets and greets all visitors.

Now AR has become an activist, a member of Occupy Salem and Movetoamend.org
and has attracted his own entourage of 4 animatronic costumed singing
guinea pigs. AR always wears a political button along with his red patterned
scarf. One light red pig wears jail clothes and sings "Jail House Rock", a
cream is a fisherman, sings the "ooga chucka" song, the white is a cowboy
and sings "I Wanna be a Cowboy", the last cream is dressed as a soldier and
he won't sing for me tonight. They are all delightfully costumed and their
arms move with the proper accessories, the cowboy has a rope the swing,
fisherman a poll in one hand a fish on a stringer in the other, soldier
AK47, the prisoner drags a ball and chain. So diverse but such good
companions. I think AR would make a great pizza baker, he looks a bit
Italian with his whiskers thick enough to look like a moustache and his
scarf. I can see him in a pizza advert now. They all live companionably on
top of a fancy cat scratcher so there's a hole for them to hide if danger
comes. The have tea every day with AR's tea set, the back drop has AR's trip
memorabilia displayed on a folding screen, surrounded by lots of Pearl Jam
memorabilia. Where I live is a short set of 8 apartments for the disabled
that all face into a wide interior corridor and each Halloween we dress it
up a bit and a first grade class trick or treats us (and the 40 units across
the way). I think AR and his friends can trick and treat these little kids
this year. What fun!
