Dear Sandy, I received some good news from Annin my mail this morning and am 
feeling much better now.  So is Eve, for that matter.  I am copying and 
pasting the relevant part here:

do not be concerned about the black spots. it is what I would of
expected. not all sludge and stones are cream coloured. also when the
urethra is inflamed lots of little pieces of poo and debris get in.
Bladder has been inflamed for a long time since Metacam was being used
so there is a back up of crystals covered in bacteria to be peed out.
That is why I say to give lots of fluid. You do not need to use diaper
rash ointment any more if she is not always wet. It is just to protect
her skin. So continue program. No time for twitter to post to GPDD.

Thank you all for your concern and support.  I never had children of my own 
but if this is anything like having a sick child, I don't think I could ever 
do it!
