Many years ago one of my pigs, Bernice, was spayed due to ovarian cysts.
She did quite well, although she was, frankly, the veterinarian's first
piggie spay (It was rather an emergency situation). He was a very talented
"exotics" vet, and did much work with birds, so I believe he was sensitive
enough to the needs of a small delicate animal to succeed, even though it
was his first experience. He did admit that she bled more than he
expected, and I was a basket case during the whole time. But Bernice lived
well and happily for several years afterwards, and now her framed picture
graces one of the shelves in my bookcase.
