Hello Jocelyn,

I am sorry that dear Edgeworth is having dental issues but glad to read
that his molars are OK.

If he were mine, I would make the journey to the vet who can trim his teeth
without anaesthetic, however far it may be, rather than have him put under
with the nearby vet, especially at his advanced age. Anaesthetics can be so
dangerous for our little ones.

My dear old Gulliver had to have his incisors trimmed regularly and my
Rodentologist showed me how to do this myself. Like Edgeworth, Gulliver
never had any problems with his molars.

I used the human nail clippers that I use to do the piggies' claws and my
Rodentologist gave me some dental tubes ( little white sausage shaped pads
). These were to put behind Gulliver's front teeth so that his tongue would
not be in the way when I wielded the clippers. I soon got the hang of doing
the trim and rasped down the rough edges with a file kindly lent to me by
my Rodentologist.

My Rodentologist just uses his thumb behind the incisors when trimming them
but I am not so nimble and like the tubes, leaving me with two hands free
to do the work. You'll be able to acquire these tubes from your vet.

Why not ask the good dental vet to show you how it is done? If I can do it,
anyone can!

Currently, my elderly Garnet has peculiar incisors. I trim the normal ones
myself and use a file kindly supplied by our own dear Ann but an extra
incisor sometimes grows at an odd angle alongside the normal ones and this
I leave to the experts to remove.

Good luck with Edgeworth.

Penny and the Piggyfriends.

Disclaimer. I have no veterinary training but have cared for piggies for
decades and have learned a great deal from my own experiences and my
wonderful Rodentologists amongst others.
