Carla,
Anytime a piggy has work done on the molars it is very important that
they get treated with an antifungal drug. I do not know where you live.
In the USA we use Nystatin oral suspension 100,000 USP units. Give 0.3ml
orally twice a day for 7 days. In Europe and Australia they have
Daktarin oral gel which is miconazole nitrate 2g in 100grams of gel.
Give 0.5ml 3x/day week one then 0.5ml 2x/day week 2 and 0.5ml once a day
for week 3. Anytime a piggy goes off of food it is a good idea to treat
with an antifungal but it is imperative after oral surgery. The
naturally occurring yeast in a piggys gi tract can overgrow when they
are not eating properly. This can cause oral thrush but more importantly
bloat and partial or total adhesion in the intestines.

I volunteer as a consulting rodentologist to Drs. Danielson and Saleh
D.V.M. of Ehrlich Animal Hospital Tampa, Florida.

Cheers,

Ann and the Rescued Piggys of Piggyville, Tampa Florida USA
