Hi again,

After my recent experience with Kimba, all I can add to everyone's advice re Chipper's teeth is that the vet has not cut the teeth properly. I took Kimba to 3 vets for teeth trimming. After each trimming he still could not eat. I took Kimba to a GP specialist, he has proper dental drils for piggies, and when Kimba woke out of anaesthetic, he was eating.

I therefore think the problem is probably not Chipper himself, but vets with little or no knowledge of a guinea pig's dental needs who are not doing the job properly.

I hope Chipper will be able to see a "real" guinea pig vet who can help with the teeth. I know the stress, worry, strain, of seeing a piggy who wants to eat, but who just can't. It is the most heartbreaking feeling.

I will pray for you Annelli & Chipper, that a GP specialist can be found, and soon. In the meantime Critical Care is the only option. My GP specialist said to keep weight up would mean 100mls of Critical Care by syringe per day; for supplemental feeding in between eating whilst recouperating after dental work, he told me to try to get 30 - 40mls of CC into Kimba. That of course was impossible because piggies hate syringe feeding and fight, but towards the end Kimba knew it was what he needed and he did become subdued when I fed him his CC.

God Bless you both, and don't give up Chipper!

Julie, Kimba, Sooty & Treacle
