Thank you all again for all the wonderful sentiments expressed at Chipper's passing. Glynis, your story about Onyx especially hit home because I'm still so emotional about losing Chipper. I know exactly what you mean about all the 'what if's'. I felt all along that somehow, I was going to be able to save him, so I have been second-guessing all the decisions since I lost him.

My new little girl, Abby, is a doll. She is not an Abyssinian but a black and white, with a little gray, crested. The one rosette on her head makes her hair droop a little over her eyes and she's positively adorable. Chipper would never sit for more than 3 minutes on my lap but Abby will sit as long I as I am willing to hold her. She relaxes and even does what I call 'the body stretch', stretching out as far as she can. It's such a change to have such a lover instead of a constantly moving busybody.

It's interesting that food is just coming up. I feed hay, Oxbow Essentials pellets and assorted veggies with the staples being green leaf lettuce, Romaine, red or green pepper, parsley and banana. Other things like cucumber, celery, red leaf lettuce, apple, and other fruits make occasional appearances when I have them. And I cut grass during the grassy season. I will always hope my guinea pigs like bananas because I learned that they sure help the syringe feeding when it is needed!

Abby is an interesting mystery for me. I've had her five days now and she eats only hay and pellets. She has nibbled on a carrot but absolutely won't touch any grass or veggies. I leave them with her hay, put them under her nose when I hold her and put them in her house when she's in there. She's still very young, under a pound, but I've never had a guinea pig that won't try anything for this long. Has anyone else had a hold-out this long? She is an only child in my house so there are no others to show her what to eat. I'm hoping she finally figures it out.

Carla and Abby
