[Gpdd] MISC. In what countries is it normal to have guinea pigs as pets?

Hi Mieke,

I have been running Piggyfriends for very many years and a lot of my herd
past and present have come to me because " the children lost interest" or "
the children will not clean the cage".

I had guinea pigs as a child and they were the best loved, cleaned and
looked after pets imaginable but, sadly, lots of people do buy them for
their children but very many adults here have piggies too ( not just me and
M ). When I take any of mine to the Rodentologists for treatment, other
clients are generally adults.

I have been taking Niamh to the vet for treatment on her ongoing abscess (
very nearly mended ) and, whilst I am in the waiting room, many people
sitting with their cat or dog have commented to me that they have or used
to have guinea pigs and Niamh has received lots of pats. She is a very
outgoing pig and is not fazed by the barking dogs.

So I would say that piggies are thought of as a pet for adults too here in
England.

I was thinking about our Debbie, who used to live in France and she always
had trouble finding a vet to treat any of her piggies and used to travel
all the way back to England to see our Rodentologists. I wonder, therefore,
if they are an uncommon pet there. Do we have a GPDDer in France?

We know that most of our group are in the US and I am guessing that they
are all adults. I posted a pigture of our PIgpenpals on our blog the other
day. The Piggyfriend tradition continues. Piggyfriends #2.

I love the website about which Luita gave us the link. Such lovely piggies
and it is good to know that such an excellent rescue exists in Germany.
Thanks Luita.

Penny and the Piggyfriends.
